Joy of Living Camp

Summer Camp Service Crew

Joy of Living's Summer Service Crew is designed to offer youth (16 years or older) a gateway opportunity to experience vocational Christian ministry, a comprehensive view of many aspects of camp ministry, and an opportunity to experience ministry in a service-oriented environment.

As a member of the Summer Camp Service Crew, you will learn and develop a variety of skills necessary to keep a summer camp ministry in operation. These are life-experiences that assist in the development of the whole person and will help you realize your full potential. This service will also assist you in preparing for future opportunities - at Joy of Living Camp and in other endeavors throughout your life.

Service Crew members are subject to the same code of behavior and policies as all staff and will be expected to participate in all aspects of camp life.

Lodging will be provided in camp cabins.

The work week begins on Sunday evening and ends at approximately 5:00 pm on Friday afternoon each week of camp.

First year members of the service crew are compensated at the rate of $100 per week for each week of employment (excluding Staff Training Week). As with all other staff, members of the service crew have the option of raising missionary support for up to twice their guaranteed compensation. Joy of Living will provide guidance for raising missionary support, if desired.

Employment as a member of the Summer Camp Service Crew does not guarantee future employment at Joy of Living Camp.

Summer Camp Service Crew members must:

  • Be willing to participate in the faith-based aspects of our ministry: Bible study, evening Chapel, devotions, etc.
  • Be at least 16 years of age by the time their period of employment begins
  • Commit to serve a minimum of 2 consecutive weeks (in addition to staff training week) employment. Service for up to 8 weeks is available.
  • Have the physical and mental ability to complete assigned tasks.
  • Be a team player

Service crew members work together under the supervision of the Facilities Director to accomplish daily tasks critical to the camp's operation. These include, but are not limited to:

  • grounds maintenance
  • cleaning meeting rooms
  • cleaning the wash house and rest rooms
  • kitchen assistance (food prep, serving, dish washing, etc.)
  • participating in Chapel (as your gifts and talents allow), and
  • participating in set up and involvement in camper programs, from time to time

Service Crew members will meet with the Facilities Director at the beginning of each work day for devotions and to receive guidance for the assignment and accomplishment of daily ministry assignments.

Members of the service crew will go home between camper weeks unless other arrangements have been made with Joy of Living Camp in advance.

Joy of Living Camp Statement of Faith

Standard of Christian Living*

*With regard to the statement of Christian living... perfection is not the goal; rather a willingness to strive for the standards. We have found these standards to be of great help in aiding our staff in living in a close community throughout the summer, and in providing a positive example for the children we serve.
